Itabus is a bus operator that offers affordable bus journeys across Italy. Their services started on May 27th, 2021 with 70 coaches that connect most of the Italian territory every day. This includes 400 medium and long-haul direct routes with the intention to grow exponentially in the future. They currently serve around two million passengers per year. 

Itabus has an extensive network of destinations that allows passengers to explore new locations with ease and convenience. They have recently increased their daily connections from popular locations such as Naples, Rome, Milan, and Venice to other major Italian cities. 

The start of implementation

The project kicked off with a three day training session in Rome after which Itabus started on the analysis phase of the project. During this phase, a dedicated Sqills consultant provided day-to-day support in terms of handling the requests of the Itabus staff to ensure a smooth project start. 

During the S3 Passenger implementation phase, Itabus and its partners developed a website and mobile application from scratch. S3 Passenger is the core engine for Itabus in terms of journey planning, inventory management, fare management, and reservations. 

The focus on a sustainable future

Itabus focuses on environmental sustainability. This is highlighted by the fact that they use Euro 6d vehicles, the category with the lowest emissions. Itabus promotes inclusivity by providing accessible, cost-effective travel for all, making cities more connected and resilient. 

Some key facts about the project

• S3 Passenger was delivered out-of-the-box, there was no need for any additional features;

• The Itabus website, mobile app, and driver app are all connected to S3 Passenger through Itabus’ middleware;

• Itabus connects to its payment service providers by 'inserting ‘virtual” payments’ in S3 Payment;

• S3 Passenger integrates with Itabus’ selected revenue management system.
