S3 Passenger now powers NOR-WAY Bussekspress

After a phased go live in January that enabled in-bus sales, S3 Passenger now powers all nine independent bus operators within the Norwegian multi-operator network NOR-WAY Bussekspress after a six-and-half-month project.

This go live involved more than just implementing S3 Passenger. NOR-WAY Bussekspress also worked with an external agency to redesign and develop the website frontend and a bus driver app that is used by the drivers for onboard sales and validations. For NOR-WAY Bussekspress, this was the perfect opportunity to elevate their UX, redesigning their digital channels to enable seamless travel

A key improvement after implementing S3 Passenger is that NOR-WAY Bussekspress can now offer its customers seat selection, thus giving passengers more control over their journey and enhancing their overall experience.

Moreover, the new system brings added flexibility in product offerings and pricing, allowing NOR-WAY Bussekspress to tailor services to customer demand. In short, they now have complete control over their offerings, free of technological limitations. This means they can adapt, innovate, and optimise their services in ways that weren’t possible before, thus ensuring a better experience for both their (in field) business operators and their passengers.

A different way of working

Typically, Sqills works directly with operators to ensure a seamless transition. However, NOR-WAY Bussekspress operates as a distributor rather than a direct operator, which made this implementation unique. In its overarching role, NOR-WAY Bussekspress not only acted as integrator and trainer, but played a critical part in harmonising the diverse needs of nine different operators into common, scalable product offerings. Their ability to unify these requirements was key to the success of the implementation.

This collaborative approach highlighted the strength of S3 Passenger’s flexibility and rich product functionality. Our agile, configuration-driven implementation process, guided by a focus on business value and rapid delivery, allowed us to meet the collective needs of the network with a remarkably short time-to-market. Thanks to the agility of our customer-centric teams and the iterative nature of our delivery, NOR-WAY Bussekspress’ network could adopt S3 Passenger quickly and efficiently. The result was a smooth go live that reinforced the adaptability of S3 Passenger across different operational models while showcasing the strength of partnership in achieving success.

For Sqills, the large network in Norway came with its own set of complexities as well. NOR-WAY Bussekspress operates a complex network, with a single route spanning over 150 stops. Managing such an extensive operation demands unique capabilities, particularly in OD (Origin-Destination) grouping. This required some work to ensure efficient planning, accurate forecasting, and seamless passenger journeys across the entire network.

We knew that Sqills had experience with multi-operator networks, and they did not disappoint during the implementation. Sqills’ proven implementation track record was an important factor for us when deciding to partner with them, and their expertise proved important during the implementation phase.
